- There is exactly one person in each row.
- There is exactly one person in each column.
- The victim occupies the last free row-column intersection.
- The killer is the only suspect alone with the victim in the same room.
- Next to means orthogonally adjacent in the same room, with no wall or window between the cells.
- Windows count as walls for wall and corner clues.
- Scenery does not affect the puzzle; only furniture shown in the legend is part of the logical board.
- Multi-cell furniture in the legend counts across its full footprint.
